The Libertines' album "Up The Bracket" is a seminal work in the British post-punk revival movement of the early 2000s, blending raw punk energy with elements of Romani-Belgian jazz and sixties melody. Released in 2002 by Rough Trade Records, it was produced by Mick Jones, the guitarist of
The Clash, and recorded at RAK Studios in London. The album's overall sound is characterized by its energetic live approach during recording, capturing the essence of the band's dynamic performances. Lyrically, it explores themes of rock'n'roll, riots, and a lust for life, echoing the druggy nightlife of East London.
The album has been celebrated for its contribution to the British music scene, filling a gap in the early 2000s music landscape. It has been reissued in a 20th Anniversary Edition, featuring a remastered version of the original recordings along with additional material, including live sessions and demos. This edition offers a comprehensive look into the making of the album and the band's creative process. "Up The Bracket" is commonly regarded as one of the
greatest albums of the decade, and its influence can still be felt in contemporary indie rock.
